The Triton Rally Car is built based on mass-production Triton, with only a few modifications on body weight and safety equipment for the competition

The sales achievement is credited to the Mitsubishi XPANDER combining stylishness, practicality, and superior handling which had its best sales performance year with 14,316 units sold from January to December 2022, an increase of 93.5% compared to 2021 and contributed 59.6% to the company’s overall total sales. There was also positive progress for the Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck which continued to enjoy its run of success with 9,697 units sold from January to December 2022. The Mitsubishi Triton retained its ranking as second in the pick-up truck segment, despite fierce competition.

“MMM is delighted to achieve a record-high sales performance in 2022, and we thank each and every Mitsubishi customer across the nation for their unwavering support. One of our significant achievements of the year was that we celebrated the Triton pick-up truck reaching a 100,000-unit sales milestone in Malaysia since MMM’s inception in 2005.

“On the product front, we also welcomed great news at the end of last year as Team Mitsubishi RALLIART’s Triton was the overall winner despite being a first-time entrant at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) in November. The Triton Rally Car is built based on mass-production Triton, with only a few modifications on body weight and safety equipment for the competition. All the elements such as high performance, durability, comfort, and good handling have been engineered into the original products in the market. Now every Mitsubishi Motors customer can feel the motorsports DNA in their model,” said Shinya Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

He added, “We also thank our business partners for their strong support. Last year, 91% of our dealers upgraded their outlets with a new visual identity (VI) for a better customer experience. Looking ahead to 2023, Mitsubishi Motors is initiating changes for the better, and an ownership experience of the highest standards. We look forward to continuing an upward trajectory and achieving future growth together.”

After a three-year absence, the AXCR got under way on the 21st in Buriram in the northeastern part of Thailand, where the first SS of the rally and a ceremonial start were held. Leg 1 on the 22nd to Leg 3 on the 24th included SS located in the area around Buriram. Leg 4 on the 25th saw the rally cross the border into Cambodia after finishing the SS around Buriram, while Leg 5 on the 26th ended at the spectacular ceremonial goal near Angkor Wat, the famed tourist attraction in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The first half of the rally in Thailand consisted mainly of high-speed stages on rough, dry unpaved roads, while the second half was more challenging with large, deep puddles scattered on muddy roads caused by heavy rain, and a tougher course compared to the previous five stages awaited the participants in Cambodia.

Chayapon Yotha, driving the car #105 Triton, finished fifth in SS1 on the first day. On the second day, he set the fastest time in SS2, the longest SS of this year’s AXCR with a 203 km course, and climbed to the top overall position. After that, the powerful driving performance and nimble handling of the Triton helped him to finish SS3 in seventh, SS4 in sixth, SS5 in fifth, and SS6 in fifth, and he maintained the lead he had established in SS2 to take the overall win.

Rifat Sungkar in car #118 finished SS1 in sixth place following his teammate. He was aiming for higher positions, but after suffering a flat tire and subsequent damages to the chassis in SS2, he dropped to eighth position. The team’s repair work allowed him to continue the rally the next day, and he finished fourth in SS3, fifth in SS4, fourth in SS5, and seventh in SS6, completing the rally in fifth overall while proving the toughness of the Triton.

Sakchai Hantrakul in car #119 tested positive for Covid-19 after SS1 and unfortunately had to retire the rally.

Hiroshi Masuoka, team director of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, commented:
“For this year’s AXCR, we built on the high reliability and durability of the Triton by tuning the engine and chassis, and entered the rally with specifications relatively close to the production car. Even so, the two Triton rally cars delivered powerful driving, and I am very proud of our high finish. The superb performance came down to the drivers, who were able to extract the Triton’s performance and show us some great drives, the engineers who worked every day to fine-tune the vehicles perfectly, all the staff who provided support, and the know-how that Mitsubishi Motors has accumulated over the years. Key to it all was the tremendous support from our sponsors and the passionate messages of support we received from fans around the world. We would like to feed the knowledge we gained through our participation in the AXCR back into the development of production vehicles, and build Mitsubishi vehicles that are even tougher, more powerful, and more reliable.”

Kuala Lumpur, 12 July 2022 – MITSUBISHI MOTORS MALAYSIA (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, recently donated high-power solar systems to enable access to solar energy in the Orang Asli’s shared community space or commonly known as their Rumah Adat.

MMM together with Global Peace Foundation and the Orang Aslis. On a mission to build resilient and cohesive Orang Asli communities.

Arba Rahman, Senior VP of MMM received a token from an Orang Asli representative

As part of Malaysian society, MMM wants to see Malaysians even the indigenous community live a better life

The donation was done through Global Peace Foundation, a non-profit organization (NGO) with a mission to build resilient and cohesive Orang Asli communities.

Lack of access to grid electricity in Orang Asli’s houses and community spaces brings health risks, expensive energy expenses, and environmental impact. To have light after dark, bonfires are frequently created by burning dried palm fruits which generate a lot of smoke that causes cough and watery eyes among the villagers, especially children.

In addition, houses and community spaces are built from resources in the forest such as bamboo wood and additional items such as zinc and PVC. Some of these materials are flammable, making it dangerous to use fire as the source of light.

Some Orang Asli families also rely on disposable energy such as petrol to run generators and batteries to power more than just lights.

“As part of Malaysian society, we want to see Malaysians even the indigenous community live a better life. With high-power solar systems, we will be providing the Orang Asli community access to affordable and renewable energy that enhances productivity- allowing community projects to continue even after dark, minimizing health and environmental impact from non-renewable energy, lesser environmental pollution, and lastly reducing energy expenditure from buying expensive energy sources that are not sustainable,” said Arba Rahman, Senior Vice President of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

He added, “This effort is together with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) global CSR program ‘STEP to the future’ which focuses on four main themes, standing for the first letters of Society, Traffic safety, Environment, and People. At MMM, we focused to benefit the society through emphasis on the Environment and People, to create a better society where people can hope for a better future.”

Kuala Lumpur, 28 April 2022 – MITSUBISHI MOTORS MALAYSIA (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, ended Financial Year 2021 (April 2021 – March 2022) on a high note despite two years of being affected by the pandemic.

The Mitsubishi XPANDER continues to dominate the non-national MPV segment in Malaysia.

The seven-seater crossover contributed 47.2% to the company’s overall total sales.

The company sold 19,217 units in FY21, which represents a 66% increase despite the Total Industry Volume (TIV) shrinking by 6.7%, as compared to the same period in Financial Year 2020 (April 2020- March 2021). This noteworthy achievement puts the company comfortably in the top three spots of the non-national automotive category.

The Mitsubishi XPANDER continues to dominate the non-national MPV segment in Malaysia, and also leads the sales for the Mitsubishi Motors brand. The seven-seater crossover has closed the financial year with 9,065 units sold, which contributed 47.2% to the company’s overall total sales.

The robust Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck is also maintaining a solid market share of close to 21.4% and remains one of the favourite choices within the pick-up truck segment despite healthy competition from its newly launched rivals. Mitsubishi Motors has sold 9,420 units of Triton in FY21 which is a 24% increase compared to FY20.

“In general, the past two years have been tough on the automotive industry, not only with the rising cases of Omicron but floods that affected the Klang Valley and East Coast region, as well as parts or chips shortage. There were many hurdles for the industry to overcome, thus for our sales performance to grow is a significant triumph for us. We take this chance to thank the Malaysian government for initiating and extending the SST exemption these last couple of years. With this, our customers could enjoy extra savings while it also gives us the time to fulfil all booking orders made. ” said Shinya Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

He added, “The company will continue to charge forward with strong momentum for 2022. We are aware that a large number of our customers aim to purchase their cars before the SST exemption expires by end of June. We are continuing our best efforts to meet the booking numbers, and we have already increased our production capacity while maintaining a high level of product quality. Our customers are the ones that put us here, thus providing them with utmost convenience and confidence towards the brand is our utmost priority.”
